Deepest condolences, man. Really sorry to hear about that. We've got a dog and cat that are as important us as any family member. Don't even want to think about ever losing them.

So very sorry, Chairman
We just had to do this about a month and a half ago. We had taken on my mom's dog who was the sweetest mix of Welsh Corgi and West Highland White. Everyone loved her, and though she had been my mom's dog , she really had become the family dog over the years. She started vomiting and they couldn't find what was wrong..the dopes didn't do the obvious (barium x-ray) so they did exploratory surgery..turned up nothing, etc..and on and on.. until we finally brought her back and took her to a different vet who said "do the x-ray" (duh) Well, she had a tumor that had basically crushed her esophagus and hence the vomiting, they let her just go to sleep right there so she never had to feel any more pain.
But, though we all grieved so, as they say when God closes a door, a window is opened, and sure enough we just found a 7 year old Keeshond who's life was more than worth saving. She's full of love, great with the kids and smart as a whip.
She has obviously been well trained and loved, all we knew was that the owner's friend was the one who had taken her into the Humane Society.
I have to think that there must have been a death or illness that would have made the owner give her up. She's too good a dog. The vet also thinks she's much younger than 7, more like 3or 4 yrs. While we'll never stop missing and loving the little lady we lost, we found more than enough love to have this wonderful new addition to our family. I hope you can get through this to find the same type of blessing we did. [img]smile.gif[/img]

Thanks to all....seriously I am glad to hear that other people care that deeply about their animals....

We got her back today (we had her cremated) and my mother who is into making pottery is looking into getting one of her teachers to make an urn(which he does on a regular basis).....

I actually pushed for this because my first dog, a dachshund named Oscar, (which was actually my parents dog long before I existed) was buried at our old house in our backyard when I was about 9...He was 16.....Yeah we know that's illegal but we didn't care.....I always have felt bad about that....He is still down there I suppose....So this way we get to sort of respect her a little more by not leaving her for some strangers to stick a basketball hoop over or something....It's funny because logically I realize it is just dead tissue (and in this case ash and dust) but it seems comforting....

sorry to hear that man. i have went through this feeling before and it was very hard to get over. took me at least a couple of months to actually get over it. one of the disadvantages of having pets, you come to attached and it becomes one of your family.
hope you make it through ok though and just think of the great times your gonna have with your new dog.
